I've waited nearly a year since getting my backpack to review it. I wanted to make sure I lived with it before passing judgment and I'm happy to say that it has performed very solidly. It has handled nearly every task thrown at it. It doesn't handle overstuffing well, and if something is larger than the interior pocket, the flaps might not protect it against rain damage (since they aren't folded completely,) but it does what it's built for very well.
Super quality and build. Nice size which can be shrunk or expanded. This bag is built for tough weather. Love it!
I've eyed Just Porter Bags for about a year now and I finally have one! I purchased the Sable Rucksack at first and it was to big for my tiny body. I called Chris and he was kind, understanding and happy to help me get the right size that I needed. The turnaround time to get the exchanged bag to me was amazing and I received it faster then I expected. I love my street commuter and it's the perfect size for me. I needed a weather proof bag with a ton of space to pack for school and work and I got just that. The magnetic clips are an amazing feature. Plus, I got the chance to help another with this purchase. I am a happy camper and have been using my bag since it arrived!
I’ve had the Streeter for more than two months, and I highly recommend it. I use it to make a bus+bicycle commute into the city. Here’s what I love about it:
• The variable size. When fully expanded, it can easily carry a laptop and charger, 8 books, a jacket, headphones, lunch, and a helmet. (I’ve done it). When you don’t have that much stuff, you can use the compression straps and the straps on the front to shrink the bag down to a much smaller size. So if you have to carry only a few things, it’s not too big. But if you need more capacity, it can become really big.
• The magnetic clips are super easy to fasten – you can just let the magnets get close to each other, and they will do the rest. They are also super easy to unfasten (this takes some practice because your hands are mirror images of each other, and the clips are not, but after a few intentional tries, you can commit the initially awkward motion to muscle memory). I was worried about the roll top taking time to get into, but it’s actually faster than a zipper. Just unclasp the magnets and flip the top open.
• It keeps your bum dry: today I spread the top flap out over a wet bench to sit on.
• The zippered pouch outside is easy to get to.
• Looks great.
• It’s comfortable, even with a heavy load.
• The bright interior makes it easy to see into.
Here are three ways the Streeter could be better:
• There is nowhere to attach a bike light on the back of the bag.
• The inside pockets are deep down in the bag and accordingly hard to get to, especially if the bag is full. They would be more useful if they weren’t so deep.
• A bottle holder on the outside would be nice, although this would possibly affect the aesthetic adversely.
Summary. For the price, this is the best bag I’ve seen on the market. Actually, even setting aside the price and comparing this bag to its competitors, this one is the best. It’s amazing that this bag is half the price of some of the competing bags, and better to bo...
I was part of the original Kickstarter campaign to fund Just Porter, which gave to me my much-loved Piko backpack. Unfortunately, as time has gone on, I've found that I needed something larger, as well as something waterproof (the Piko has held up fantastically). As soon as I saw the Streeter on this site I knew it was what I needed! So happy with it. The magnetic buckles are not just utilitarian, but cool as hell. the bag feels durable, and easily accommodates all the stuff I have to carry around, without me ever worrying about it getting too banged up or wet.
I'm going to college in the Pacific Northwest so this bag couldn't be more perfect! I love the way it fits and the magnetic straps. With the weatherproof material I always know that my stuff is safe from the rain. To make it even better you know your making a difference for someone else and their education as well. Nothing more you could want :)
* Very easy to pack
* Lots of cargo space
* Good construction
* High quality materials
* Not as easy to unpack
* Slightly heavy
* Could use a few more (maybe hidden) pockets
I am very pleased with my just porter backpack! It feels great to carry it, looks stylish, and I have had many compliments on it. This thing holds A LOT for being just a commuter pack!
I even fit my 17 inch Dell in it...which I didn't expect. Shipping was incredibly fast!
Keep up the good work!
This was a present for my son, when the shipping of the backpack was delayed the notification was a phone call from Chris! Truly that would have been enough to satisfy me, but when the backpack arrived there was a handwritten note and an additional gift. Needless to say this kind of communication and customer service is unheard of these days. Plus I looked like a rock star when my son got an additional present for his birthday. Thank you.
My first backpack has lasted from kindergarten until now (I'll be a college freshman in the fall), so I knew I wanted to invest in something that would be durable and last many years. When I began looking for a backpack for college, I didn't know where to turn. Then, I remembered a scholarship opportunity regarding a backpack. I located Just Porter and looked through their merchandise. I live in a place where it rains most of the winter and I needed a reliably waterproof backpack to keep my textbooks dry and carry my 15 inch laptop. I am so happy to have this backpack. It's incredibly well constructed and organized. I was pleased to find that the inside was orange for ease of access. I look forward to using it during my college years!
Seriously, I didn't realize how much I needed this bag until I had it. While I was concerned about the size (it is a bit bigger than what I usually prefer in a commuter bag), it is definitely a very manageable size and doesn't feel as enormous as I would have expected it to. Plus, the larger -- and expandable-- nature of it means that I can fit more gear, which is great on the occasions that I want to bring my tripod, camera, multiple lenses, and a change of clothes with me on a weekend excursion. I'm 5'6" and it is both very comfortable (distributed weight excellently) and not at all unwieldy. The magnetic clasps are a seriously awesome feature that I now think should be mandatory for all bags. And it being waterproof has already come in quite handy on multiple occasions in the few weeks I've owned the bag. Of course, the charitable nature of the company makes me feel that much better about supporting them. As some others have mentioned, the only thing I wish it had was a pocket for a water bottle, but that's certainly not a deal breaker. All in all, 10/10 - would get again. In fact, I'm planning to buy some JustPorter bags as gifts now.
A great bag. Just what I was looking for. I with there was a side or front pocket for a water bottle, but I knew going into this that I'd miss that.
The magnetic clips are quite secure and the bag rests high on the back and is very comfortable.
The inside of the bag is no frills and straight forward. The laptop pocket comes with a removable buffer incase your laptop is smaller or you are a little pairanoid.
The bag is about 20 litres, which is something that I think should be in the descriptions.
That said, I had a very quick response about how many litres this bag by emailing and quickly getting an answer back.
If I have one complaint (and I only have on complaint) it is that the front zipper pocket it very small. You can fit a cell phone, a small moleskin, a few losse small items (coins and such), but not much else which is a shame since it is a perfect spot for a small paper back or kindle.
Other than that one conplaint, excellent bag.
This backpack is extremely durable and great for commuters and travelers, especially in the city. I just got back from a 2 week backpacking trip and it was very comfortable to wear, fit everything I needed, and is still in great condition. I know I've invested in a backpack that will last for many years to come.
Best backpack I've owned. Without a doubt.
I am a huge fan of this bag. I use it regularly for carrying my laptop and photo gear. It's super durable and weatherproof, which essential for carrying gear around.
I love the padding inside and the magnetic snaps on the outside are a nice touch too. The bag is super comfortable when on your back. I also think the quality of the bag as a whole is top notch.
I am a Photographer and traveler, This bag is amazing not only will it protect my equipment inside my bag but it will also shield it from water. Also i am able to fit a lot of gear in this bag. You can't beat the quality you get with this bag.
I purchased this bag after reviewing the best the Internet had to offer. I have had it for about 4 months and have no regrets (which for me is a great sign, tend to be frugal). It's big. It feels insanely durable. Like post-apocalypse durable. The magnetic clips give it a little something special.
After purchase you get an email from the company asking your likes and such. Just so happens that the email goes directly to the founder of the company. Unreal. I have had 3 or 4 email exchanges with Chris Bahr. I was so shocked I kinda tell everybody about it. Tells me this company is going to continue to grow and become special. Something bigger going on here.
I have always been searching for that perfect bag. I am a self-proclaimed hipster and want something different than what most people have. I look for quality, design, and functionality as my three most important characteristics.
For quality, this bag has it all. The durability of this bag allows me to carry it on every flight and I haven't had a snag or rip even though I throw it around all the time. The interior orange material is also very strong.
The design and functionality for this bag is awesome too. For many other companies, they have pockets... too many pockets. I don't need a pocket for every cord I own or every accessory that I hold on me. I want the perfect amount that fits my needs: 1) Laptop Slot, 2) Sunglass Spot, 3) Charger Quick Access, 4) Folders, 5) Pens and Random Cords, 6) Quick Pocket for Phone and Wallet (Located on the front and perfect for TSA security at the airport).
There is only one downside for this bag however. Since I got married, my wife finds it to be "the perfect sized bag for travel" and takes it with her on her monthly work trips. Now I have to order a new one since it is definitely the best one I could find!
The bag is really great! I was using it daily because it's able to carry all my things - textbooks, folders, camera, laptop, charger for laptop and phone - in a very compact way. I really like how I can expand it and found myself using it when I needed to carry everything. The most I've carried in the bag is the following: a canon t5i, dell xps15z laptop, a neuro-anatomy textbook, a joby gorilla pod, a folder with about 60 pages, charger for laptop and phone. I also like the placement of the pockets because certain things would be really easy to access eg. I keep my hospital ID in the front chain pocket). I also love the waterproof ness. The other day it was raining and I didn't have an umbrella but had my camera and laptop in my bag but everything was dry on the inside.
I found myself always using it and getting a lot of compliments on it!
The bag is excellent! Amazing design, material,look, and feel!
Great Quality and design. It can store all I need everyday. But, I cant fold the backpack to look like the photo.
Absolutely love my bag and the purpose behind buying it. So durable and spacious and love the style.
Really good quality.
Great bag for everyday use. i can carry my laptop, umbrella, a few pens, wallet, keys and all my necessities. Best of all its weather proof so i don't have to worry about getting my stuff wet.
One improvement that would be good is adding on more compartments so that
my items can segregated instead of just chunking it all together.
Amazing bag, outstanding company. Chris, you are a star for what you are doing and for how you run a company. The Streeter will be in Africa next week as I continue to work to help children in rural areas receive a quality education, so your cause couldn't be more appealing to me. Photos from the field forthcoming.
Thanks for being AWESOME!
Just received my street backpack in India! perfect design to travel in the rickshaw with my computer and to go through the monsoon... with style.
Great Pack! Very cool design. I love the magnet clips. The materials are top notch and I imagine it will last a long time. Thanks so much.
It is a very good backpack. Feels durable. Hoping that it breaks in with time. Price is on the very high end, but my hope is that the pack endures to justify. Most impressed with the letter from Chris Bahr upon purchase. Simply have no category for that type of personal touch. Chris, your belief in what you are doing makes me more sold on my purchase.
I was sceptical when I first saw this bag. I have a friend that was always saying, "This is a great bag, you gotta get one." I played around with the buckles, and was mildly impressed. Then came the day I had my Chrome backpack stolen (bummer). I bit the bullet and ordered up a streeter from Just Porter. Well, to say I am impressed would be an understatement. Don't get me wrong, it's not the best thing since sliced bread, butthe construction and materials are so much better than what I've seen. At the bottom of the rung would be Herschel, then higher up would be Timbuk2, then highest would beChrome, Mission Workshop and Just Porter in this space. AND, I GOT A THANK YOUNOTE FROM THE OWNER! Yeah, these guys are that good.
This never happens. I was going through the TSA line in the airport. I get stopped for a random check. TSA guy starts playing with the buckles on the flap like a kid. Hahaha :-) Looks at the bag ask if I like it. I tell him, "Yeah, great bag." He asks me the price, I tell hi.. "Is it worth it?" he says. "Yeah, for sure." I say. He tells me, "I'm going to get one of those." So, Just Porter, if you got an order from a TSA guy, you owe me. HAHAHA Great backpack.
To me, I have always tried to do a lot of research and make good decisions on my purchases. I've been happy with owning this backpack. I think it's a great commuter backpack since it can hold a bit more. But, I think a huge positive is how easily this bag cleans up. It's easy to clean with some papertowel and water for a quick once down. It's a comfortable backpack and the straps are perfectly wide. I live in the Seattle area, and I love that the bag keeps rain out. Highly recommended.
Great bag with great customer service. I needed a solid commuter backpack and I reached out to support, and they were really helpful with their advice and questions to make sure I got the best backpack for me.
As a street photographer it is really important to have a comfortable backpack to walk around and this one is perfect! Highly recommended_ !
Okay, first this a really high quality backpack that is durableand has a lot ofspace for the outside footprint. This backpack is great as a overnight bag. But, I've taken ithiking and used it as a commuting backpack.The inside has a lot spaceplus a padded laptop sleeve that is reall well made. The inside is lined with orange fabric really easy to see what is inside. The backpack itself looks stylish because of the clean lines.It's extremely comfortable. The shoulder-straps and extra padding help the backpack to sit comfortable on my shoulders.
Any journey requires a great bag and Just Porter has the concept of a great bag down pat! Not only is this bag stylish, but it's built extremely well! Upon taking the bag out of the box i was surprised at how strong the material felt, i won't have to worry about any tears in the bag or anything inside getting damaged. The best part of the bag is the padding on the back and those magnetic straps! The padding keeps your back comfortable, even if you have some bulky items in the bag (I use mine as a makeshift camera bag) and the straps just have a super satisfying click when locking. All in all, if you're looking for a stylish bag with lots of protection and is built to last, look no further!
Great bag. I absolutely love it. Love the magnetic buckles for the top cover. Great padding for my laptop, and it cleans up well.100% recommend it.
Great backpack and the attention to detail and construction are awesome. Con: the laptop area is inside which takes up space, but on the upside the laptop area is padded so you know it's inside, dry and protected from shocks and bumps.
Bag stays up high on my back which I like. Visually a striking bag, and the inside is well designed. I like that it has an appropriate amount of pockets. Most backpack companies just put in pockets just to make them. All that does is help me lose my stuff. Rather than "WHERE IS X?" I just look in the main compartment or one of the two other pockets. So, it is a more efficient bag than most. I'm a tele-commuter so this bag acts like a mobile office for me. It holds my Macbook 15" an ancillary tablet , chargers, cords, etc... When I do go to the office, it's one of the smarter looking bags. For the price, the bag is a fair value. Not cheap, but not super crazy designer expensive.
Insanely fast shipping time! was intimated at first by the size for an everyday bag, but the buckles on the side allowed me to make the bag more compact and then bigger when need be. Super satisfied with my purchase, they even sent a letter with the bag. Best commuet backpack and best company. I would purchase another but I can tell this is gonna last me a while!
Excellent quality commuter backpack. Love the fabric.Cute design and a great paddedlaptop sleeve on the inside. Would buy again!
Two things. 1) This bag handles my older 17 inch Macbook Pro. 2) Really happy with the construction. This bag is one of my favorite backpacks.
Great back pack! 5/5
I like the bag a lot and it gets lots of compliments. I wish the zippered pocket on the front went all the way across instead of only 3/4. the inside could use more pockets and a you could seperate or divide the computer pocket into two to hold files or paperwork.
Best backpack I've ever owned. Fits great on my back,looks good and it's a super durable backpack.I think it's better than my sanction from Mission workshop. JMHO
This is a great bag for peoplewho commute. It's a perfect city backpack because it's a perfect size. It'sjust right, and has room to pack essentials for work. I think this would be a great college backpack too. This backpack has the best padded laptop sleeveI have seen. For a laptop backpack, I know that my computer is going to be safe. That is rare. I keep my ipadunder the flap area, and I love that my stuff is safe from rain. It's a great backpack.
I found this backpack after searching for weeks. I was looking for a good commuter backpack that could 1) deal withNYC weather (especially winter) 2) Had an area that was well padded to keep my laptop safe 3) Could carry my stuff for DJing. After comparing this bag, I could see and feel the difference between a Just Porter bag and any of the rest. The stitching was tight and it was competing with designer backpacks that were in the $300 range. Great DJ backpack.
I use itfor work. It holds my laptop, lunch and work papers. Really satisfied. But, the most surprising thing is that this is a buy one give one backpack company. Rarely does a company make a great product and have a great social mission. On top of that, I received a hand written thank you note from the owner Chris Bahr. That turned me into a lifetime fan, and I get a lifetime warranty. Sign me up.Great Job Just Porter!
Notebook sleeve is well padded. Great commuter backpack that secures well with the chest strap. Love the magnetic buckles. Would like a exterior water bottle pocket, but I don't miss it a ton. Really like the white zipper on the flap for my phone and charger cord. This bag checks a lot of boxes and is better looking than in person 9/10
This backpack fits all my camera gear, gadgets, laptop, and school supplies. Looks better in person (I bought the black). Love the flap that covers the top. Works well as a bike backpack, the chest strap hold firm. Good bag.
I'm a teacher and I wanted one of these for school year. Honestly,One of the best backpacks I've ever owned! Upgraded from a Chrome messeneger bag, this one fit every need I have and it is very comfortable. More comfortable than a messenger bag.Plenty of storage as well. I love the compression straps on the sides and the padded laptop area in the backpack.
This bag is made for more of an urban / city person. Get this if you need a bike backpack or you're a commuter or like a rucksack style bag. Good quality, but I like my Herschel.
I use it everyday for communiting and I love it. Best bag I've seen for the price.
I bought a streeter and it fits my 17" macbook pro. Yep, nobody can hold those anymore. Well constructed with nice details inside. On par with other commuter bags, but this bag has a little more bang for your buck. Unlike most bags that just weld together seams, this bag is stitched, and has gray ribbon. It's a detail thing. But, if they're paying attention to the inside, you know they're paying attention to the rest of the details. I'll update this in 6 months.
Great biking backpack,
I thought this bag was smaller like a Fjallraven Kanken.
This backpack is awesome and the fit is great. The shoulder straps aremore comfortableand flexiblethan the standard straps, but it takes about 3 weeks for breaking them in. The waterproof material on the outside of the backpack is reallynice. When I am commuting on my bike and it starts to rain, I know everything will stay dry. Love the magnetic clips for the flap and my chest strap. Very good EDC bag. I carry a 15" Macbook, a couple of books, notesbooks, pens, pencils and some food. The usual college stuff. This bag gives me more room to carry a light coat or a sweatshirt if I need it. I keep my cord under the flap. Really well made bag.
I bought this backpack after looking at Mission Workshop and a Timbuk2. I wanted to find a waterproof bag that would carry my laptop and gear. The streeter is a great choice as compared to other commuter backpack and bags like ortlieb or timbuk2 since the detail seems like so much more. It's cheaper than a Mission which is a plus. Good bag for mass transit people or people that need a bike backpack doing their commute.
Finally, a backpack that is well made and is utlitarian. I'm really happy with this backpack since all of the others on the market tend to be the same flavor of Vanilla. I wanted a bag that had durable fabric, was waterproof, and would be worth the price. Just Porter delivered on all fronts. I was surprised that this company could really make something different, yet make something really high quality. Love the buckles and the layout of the bag. Nice organization system inside. Really great commuter backpack. You can tell that it was made a bicycling backpack. Exceptional.
This is a really well-made commuter backpack. The fabric, the design are top notch. I looked at Chrome backpacks and messenger bags, Timbuk2. They're good bags, but Just Porter's Streeter is really a great backpack. I like the waterproof fabric on the outside, but the fabric on the inside sets the bag apart. It's a level of detail that I haven't seen in another bag. I really like this bag and look forward to seeing what Just Porter does in the future.
I was really concernedabout throwingmy money awayon a really expensive bag, since I didn'tknow the brand or what to expect. So, what did I learn? Honestly I'm very happy with what I received. For someone who commutes and has owned several commuter backpacks, I actually shocked that they got it right. It's very durable, and I love the way that the Streeter fits and contours to my back. I love the padding channel in the back. It makes it more comfortable while riding my bike on a hot day. Plus: the bag can actually get pretty small when you use the compression straps. Quality wise it is on the same level as other commuter baglike Mission Workshop and Chrome Industries. Actually the streeter's laptop area is 100x better than those bags. Negatives: I wish there were an easy place to put my light. I think they should add a piece of fabric on the flap. I just attach it to the flap strap and call it a day. If it had that, the bag would be a 5.
Nice bike backpack, well made. It can hold every thing I need. I've owened several commuter backpacks, and this is really well made.
Slim profile for a commuter backpack. I am able to fit my Dell15.6" laptop which is nice since it's a little wider than normal. Has a good quality feel to it all around. Buy it if you need a bag with a padded laptop area. They did a nice job with the padding.
I am really happy with my Streeter. I got a green one, I think the color is off on the website since it shows a more brown/green. It's more of an olive color in real life. Cool backpack!
Awesome bag if you're a commuter. Looks really nice too.
